Irene K. Zirkle, 87


Irene K. Zirkle, a resident of the Timberville Crossing Nursing Home in Timberville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006. She was 87.

Mrs. Zirkle was born April 17, 1919, in Timberville, and was the daughter of Paul and Martha Tusing Kipps.

She was a graduate and valedictorian of her class at Timberville, Class of 1937. On Sept. 17, 1938, she married Jacob A. Zirkle of Forestville, who preceded her in death in November 1996.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Neff and husband, Dick Neff, of Amherst, N.Y., Janet May and husband, Ben May, of Timberville; and a son, Larry Zirkle and wife, Linda, of Broadway. Her eight grandchildren are Kim Neff Riley of Richmond, Va., Kevin Neff of East Amherst, N.Y., Kelly Casey of Cranberry, Pa., Bart May of Timberville, Staci May of Seattle, Wash., Shelly Zirkle of Virginia Beach, Va., Megan Zirkle of Yorktown, Va. and Drew Zirkle of Norfolk, Va. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

She was a lifelong and faithful member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in New Market and also a member of their WELCA organization. Mrs. Zirkle loved her church and enjoyed participating in many various church activities.

The Rev. Jeff May will conduct a memorial service at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in New Market on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

Arrangements are by Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. The casket will be closed.
