Linda Sue "Courtney" Woods affectionately known as "Linny", "Maw" and "Gamaw" 75, passed away on Saturday,
October 21st, 2023 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Linda fought and beat two different cancers,
but at last the cancer came back with vengeance. She passed peacefully with the knowledge that she had been
saved, baptized, was a Christian and Jesus was her Lord and savior.
Linda Woods was born November 28th, 1947 in Waynesboro, VA, daughter of Robert Lee Courtney and Geneva
"Tomes" Courtney. She is preceded in death by the love of her life James Alber Woods; and sadly for her and the
family, eldest grandson, Timothy Scott Woods II; Stepfather Charles Howard Henkel and niece Maria Robinette
Dooms "Robin". Linda was the baby of five sisters, Carol Lee Phillips, Joyce McCann "Joycee", Frances Cash "Panky",
Roberta Lynn Campbell "Birdie", who all preceded her in death. Linda is survived by her sons and many adopted
friends of the family.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and a very proud great grandmother, she was a Virginia Tech and a Redskins
fanatic football fan. Linda was often found around town talking and happily arguing over her teams and getting on
all the men and women that grew up with her sons. Linda was known to turn off every tv in her home to help the
team win while calling and staying on the phone for play by play calls. Let's not forget her good luck lasagna and
famous baked beans.
She is survived by four sons, Timothy Scott Woods and wife, Jennifer; Dustin Carpenter and Samanta Gorth of
Bedford, VA; James Allen Woods of Salem, VA; Ernest Lee Woods and wife, Amanda of Palmyra, VA; and Charles
Jayson Woods and wife, Kelly of Crozet, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jacob Lee Woods, girlfriend
Courtney Shifflett; Elizabeth Anne Woods, boyfriend Ben Moomaw; James Alexander Woods, girlfriend Dayi
Almaguer; Autumn Grace Woods, boyfriend Aries Fleury; and Ally Rose Woods. Jailynn Dyer, Cam Dyer, and last but
not least Greyson Dyer Woods "Shorty". One great-grandchild Bella-Rae with many nephews and nieces.
Linda retired from Conagra frozen foods in 2002. She then went to work for UVA facilities and finally retired for good
in the summer of 2013. One of her biggest achievements besides her Lord and savior, family, loved one's and friends,
is when she went back to school at the age of 66 to complete her GED. It was to show all, but mostly to her children
and grandchildren, that education was a lifetime pursuit and is important and to try to complete something even if it
takes years to finish.
The family wants to thank the many doctors through out her declining health and the Hospice of Piedmont. Special
thanks goes to daughter -in-law Kelly Woods and as well Kierra Ward and Niecy Dyer for their help in the good and
bad times.
Family night will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet, VA between the
hours of 5:00-8:00 pm. The funeral will be held graveside at Mt. Moriah Church in White Hall, VA on Thursday,
October 26, 2023 at 11:15 am. The graveside service will be officiated by the Reverend T.C. James.
In lieu of flowers family asks donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
