On Saturday, October 7th, 2023, Carl Witherspoon, affectionately called “Spoon”, answered his Father’s call. He
made his peaceful transition from labor to reward in the comfort of his home surrounded by family in
Grovetown, GA.
Spoon was born on July 23rd, 1961 in Providence, RI to the late Esther and Roby Witherspoon.
In addition to his parents, Spoon was preceded in death by his son, Jamil Ford, Sr. and his sister, Diane
Witherspoon.
Our beloved Spoon leaves behind to cherish many precious memories, three children, Iris Sanchez-Ocean, Carl
Sanchez and Ashley Jacobs; ten grandchildren, Shakine Brown, Mikhail Cullars, Nathaniel Sanchez, Amaya
Sanchez, Nicholas Sanchez, Jamil Ford, Jr., Aryis Witherspoon-Vargas, Jermyiah Ford, Adrianna Witherspoon-
Vargas and Ava Jacobs; three great granddaughters; four sisters, Sandra Wiliams, Theresa Crawford, Joyce
Fisher and Mia Witherspoon; a host of other relatives and friends.
He enjoyed cooking, listening to music and anything sports related. Although Spoon was born and raised on
the east coast, his favorite teams were all based in California. He was a huge fan of the LA Dodgers, LA Lakers
and Las Vagas (Oakland) Raiders. He could talk about sports all day. Spoon had a huge soft spot for all his
grandchildren and would drop everything to assist when they needed him. He was the life of the party and
could always provide a good laugh. His infectious spirit and laughter was contagious and will surely be
missed.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at McCutcheon and Jones Funeral Home
Chapel with viewing one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
