Leo Nelson Whitecotton, 82, husband of Linda H. Whitecotton, formerly of Swoope, passed away on Wednesday,
October 5, 2022 at Kings Daughters Health and Rehab in Staunton.
Mr. Whitecotton was born in Blue Grass, Virginia on March 4, 1940, a son of the late Frank Whitecotton and Alice
(Nelson) Whitecotton.
Leo was a member of Western Augusta Steam and Gas, and was employed with the Staunton City Schools for 36
years. He enjoyed tractors, camping and never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitecotton was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Dale Whitecotton; and three
sisters, Lona Lee Mallow, Fern Fox and Mary Puffenbarger.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 60 years, are two sons, Winston Whitecotton and his wife Dawn of Staunton and
Larry Whitecotton and his wife Maggie of Swoope; special friends, the Crummett family; and his cat, “Little Boy".
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Coffman Funeral
Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel
by Pastor Matthew Diehl.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Winston Whitecotton, Larry Whitecotton, Raymond Grogg, Doug Phillips, Ivan Diehl and
Darrell Persinger.
The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to the staff at Hospice of the Shenandoah and King’s
Daughters for the care shown to Mr. Whitecotton.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
