Rachael Kathryn Welton, age 99 of Old Fields, WV, passed away Friday evening, September 22, 2023, at the E.A. Hawse
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Baker, WV. Born on October 20, 1923, in Petersburg, WV, she was a daughter of the late
Ohley Gray Webley and Vivian Elizabeth Wheaton Webley. Her husband, Aaron Alexander Welton, Jr preceded her in death in
September 2008. Sons David J. Welton and Aaron A. Welton, III also preceded her in death.
Rachael retired from the Hardy County Schools in 1989 after a 23 year career. She began teaching 1st & 2nd grades at Toll Gate
School. After the move to the new “Moorefield Elementary School”, she taught only 1st grade. She and her husband “Bud”
after retirement enjoyed many years of traveling. They RV’ed across numerous states and then visited many more without the
RV. She also enjoyed several cruises, including Disney Cruise with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as a
cruise to Bermuda for her 90th birthday.
She was a member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church as well as theAAUW that she was active in for many years. Her
favorites pastime was playing bridge. She played both duplicate and party bridge, enjoying many bridge partners through the
years.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Gray (Larry) Mullin of Winchester, VAand Kathryn (Allen) Welton-Davy of Old Fields,
WV; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Welton of Old Fields, WV; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and a great-great-
granddaughter.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington
Street with Pastor WadeArmentrout officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends
from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.
