After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, Suzan Kay “Sue” Walker departed to her heavenly home on
October 12, 2022, in Virginia Beach, VA. She was surrounded by her loving children, Mellanie Walker Patterson
and Jeffrey Allen Walker.
Sue was born at Fravel’s Hospital in Woodstock, VA on October 5, 1945, to the late Grover Hugh Harmon and the
late Anna Belle Harmon. Sue was one of six girls, Betty Wakeman (and husband Bob), and Gloria Campbell (and
husband Tommy), and Kathy Denton (and husband Terry). She had a daughter-in-law Diana Walker and grandson
Brandon Walker. She also had numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members. In addition to her
parents Sue was preceded in death by two sisters Norma Dano and Joyce Weeks.
A funeral service for Sue will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Mt. Olive United
Methodist Church with Rev. Kathleen Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery. The family will
receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Sue was an active member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church since March 1959. She was a member of the
Strasburg Moose. She was a dedicated mother and cherished her sisters, family, and army of friends.
Sue was passionate about gardening and when she wasn’t with her family and friends, she took care of her yard
and flowers. She loved living near the mountain, absolutely adored all children and all animals, although cats were
certainly her favorite.
Sue held several positions throughout the years. She was a partner with the Stitch and Sew Fabric store in
Woodstock, VA. She retired from Blue Bell/Wrangler in Woodstock, and later worked at the Shenandoah County
Memorial Hospital.
The hole left with Sue’s passing will never be filled but we can continue knowing she is back with her late mom,
dad, sisters, and other family and friends without any more pain and suffering.
The family ask that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Mt Olive United
Methodist Church at 12180 Back Road, Toms Brook, VA 22660 or the Alzheimer’s Association- Southeastern
Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
