ArthurDaniel Vandermark, Jr., age56, ofCharlottesville, Virginia departed thislife
unexpectedly on November 1,2022. He was born onFebruary 22, 1966 in Princeton, N.J. to
ArthurD. Vandermark and Joan Speinheimer Snyder. Hewaspreceded in death by hisparents
and his sister, Sylvia Dodge.
Arthurworked as ageneral remodeling contractor. He loved the variety and challenges ofthe
work. Hewas atalented woodworker and designed a shop in whichhe could design, create,
and build. He lovedto learn. He had anextensive library ofwoodworking books and took
classes to develop hisskills.In his30’s, he decided tolearn Spanish. Heloved exploring the
Blue Ridge and beyond as oftenas possible and never met adirt road hedidn’tlike. And, he
loved hisanimals – cats Jazz and Georgie anddogs Buddy and Bean– whoare missing him.
He is survived by hiswifeof 27 years, Margaret Walter Vandermark; his stepfather, John H.
Snyder ofCharlottesville; his sister, Sherri Vandermark Davis and her husband, Paul of
Barboursville; his brother-in-law, Gary Dodge ofOregon; his stepsisters, Yvonne Hobbs of
Virginia Beach, DeborahLawrence and her husband Jeffof Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and
Brenda Coady and her husband, Mike ofHolly Springs, NorthCarolina; hissister-in-law Libby
Walter Yezziand her husband Rick ofBumpass, Virginia; and his brother-in-law JohnWalter
and his wife Linda ofMechanicsville, Virginia; and numerousnieces, nephews, great-nieces,
and great-nephews.
Arthurwas an old, gentle soul whocared deeply about his family and animals, craved
knowledge and new adventures, and often had wanderlust. Hisabsence leaves a huge void in
all ourlives.
The family also wants to express our heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staffof
Sentara Martha Jefferson Cancer Center and Radiologyfortheir care and treatment of Art over
the pastseveral months.
Acelebration of his life will be held at a later date.
