Irene Turpen, of Staunton, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 23, 2023, just a few weeks shy of one
hundred years of age.
She was born Irene Johnson on December 2, 1923, in Norton, VA.
Irene was an active and cherished member of the South Staunton VACongregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis and John Wells; stepson, William Turpen, Jr., and wife, Connie; seven grandchildren and
step-grandchildren; niece, Kathleen Strakey and her husband, George, and their son Jonathan; as well as many other nieces and
nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Turpen, Sr.; daughter, DonnaAllison; son, Jeff Sinsel; grandsons,
Dale and Buddy Winklespecht; three sisters; two brothers; and her mother and father.
The family expresses special thanks to Irene’s devoted caregiver, India Sledge-Brown, whom she loved like a daughter, and to
the kind compassionate caregivers at Staunton Post Acute Care and Gentiva Hospice.

Amemorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in
Staunton. All are welcome.
