Conway C. Thorne, 89


Conway C. Thorne, 89, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.

Mr. Thorne was born April 7, 1918, in Dorcas, W.Va., and was the son of the late George A. Thorne and Vernie Mongold Thorne.

He was proprietor of Annandale Surplus in Annandale and Springfield Surplus in Springfield. He was a member of Brake Church of the Brethren. He was active in supporting local sports, law enforcement and scouting.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Helen Rose Berry Thorne; two sons, George A. Thorne of Columbia, Md., and Timothy D. Thorne of Dorcas, W.Va.; a sister, Georgia Mae Stump, and a brother, Carl J. Thorne, both of Dorcas; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pastor Craig Howard will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brake Church of the Brethren. Burial will be at Brake Cemetery in Dorcas, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va.
