Sheldon Opie Thompson, age 81, of Moorefield, WV, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. He was born
on February 14, 1942 in Riverton, WV the son of the late Opie and Evalina (Lawrence) Thompson. He married his
loving wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen (Vance) Thompson on June 17, 1963, who survives in Moorefield.
Mr. Thompson attended school in Riverton, WV, had formerly attended Bakers Rock United Methodist Church, and
was a veteran of the United States Army. Sheldon had worked for Hanover Shoe Factory in Franklin, WV, as a saw
operator for Kessel Lumber Company in Petersburg, WV, and also drove truck for Huffman Litter. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Sheldon leaves behind to cherish his memories: a daughter, Ashley Thompson (fiancé Trevor
Wolfe) of Franklin, WV; 2 sons, Johnny Thompson (Melissa) of Moorefield, WV, Dewayne Thompson (Ida) of
Moorefield, WV; a brother, Clyde “Bob” Thompson of Harman, WV; 11 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren.
Sheldon was preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Hansel “Saul” Thompson, David Lee Thompson, Sr.; 2 sisters,
Katherine Reel and Virginia Burns.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV and are incomplete at this
time.
