Margie A. Stroop

Margie Ann Stroop, 73, a resident of Singers Glen, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at her home.

Mrs. Stroop was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Willard E. and Mamie J. Grogg Hill.

She worked for Metro Pants, H.D. Lee and retired from Rocco Poultry. In her spare time, Mrs. Stroop enjoyed crocheting hats and lap blankets for preemies and cancer patients. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys Fan. She was a member of the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church.

On June 6, 1955, she married Roy B. Stroop, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Vickie Stroop Stultz and husband, Carl, of Harrisonburg; a son, Roy (R.B.) Stroop II and wife, Julie, of Weyers Cave; brothers and sisters, Elaine Whetzel of Linville, Kenneth Hill, Phyllis McDonaldson and Carroll Hill, all of Harrisonburg, and William (Billy) Hill of Keezletown; four grandchildren, Chad Stultz, Jade Smith, Ashley Stroop (who lived with her grandparents for four years) and Blake Stroop; two stepgrandchildren, Justin Lambert and Shalana Lambert, and five great-grandchildren, Aliyah Smith, Lillee Smith, Jaxton Smith, Corbin Smith, and Jossalynn Hartman.

Mrs. Stroop was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Stroop; two sisters, Rachel Davis and Catherine Hill and a brother, Robert Hill.

Pastor Michael Shenk III and Pastor Brian Bridges will conduct a funeral service Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Singers Glen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
