Thomas R. Stevens Sr., 82


VERONA, Va. — Thomas Robert Stevens Sr., 82, formerly of Elkton, passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at the home of his son in Verona.

Mr. Stevens was born in Rose Creek, Minn., on June 29, 1926, and was the son of the late Thomas Andrew and Magdalena Wagner Stevens.

He was a World War II and Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force, respectfully. He worked in law enforcement for numerous years with the Town of Elkton, achieving the rank of Chief of Police. Simultaneously, he was also employed for a brief time with the U.S. Marshal’s Office. He later was employed at Westinghouse with the Security Department and the Massanutten Police Department.

On Oct. 21, 1948, he married Aline Joyce Monger, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Thomas Robert Stevens Jr. and wife, Jan, of Verona; two daughters, Mary S. Swecker of Harrisonburg and Ramona J. Stevens of Hattiesburg, Miss.; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, one sister and a very special niece.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. James B. Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Elk Run Cemetery.
