Wilda M. Stargell, 89


Wilda Ellen Blizzard McLaughlin Stargell, 89, of Charlottesville, passed away on Friday Oct. 27 2006, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Born on March 4, 1917, in Brandywine, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Felix Lee and Carrie Propst Blizzard. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Ward McLaughlin and John Stargell, two sisters and two brothers and a dear friend, Helen Berkeley.

Wilda was a member of Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church and had retired from the University of Virginia Hospital Emergency Room Department after 32 years of service. Wilda had a special love for growing flowers especially roses.

She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Mitchell and her husband, Harold, of Sugar Grove, W.Va.; her son, Neil McLaughlin and his wife, Darlene, of Charlottesville; her grandchildren, Hugh Mitchell and his wife, Pat, of Charlottesville, Cary Hevener and her husband, George, of Brandywine, W.Va., Gail Megahan and her husband, Renny, of Charlottesville and Sandra McLaughlin and her fiancé, Myron Ripley, of Charlottesville; her great-grandchildren, Whit Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell, Carter Megahan, all of Charlottesville, and Jordan Hevener of Brandywine, W.Va.; and dear friends, Goldie Stargell, Muriel Edmonds, Virginia Mabry and Gladys Harris.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, in the Chapel of the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens.

The family received friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
