Janet Ann Solomon. age 64, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022. She was born May 24, 1958, the daughter of the late
William Emert Solomon and Bertha Elizabeth Colson Solomon, late of Waynesboro, Virginia. Janet was predeceased by her
older brother William Emert Solomon, Jr. Survivors include her beloved son Matthew Thomas Solomon, her sister and
travelling companion Pamela Solomon Reid (Terry), and her brother Edward Jack Solomon (Carla); and William’s widow
Barbara. Also surviving are niece Margaret Elizabeth Solomon Gunn (Eric); nephews William Emert Solomon III (Kirsten),
Stuart Solomon Reid (Kathy), and Brandon Taylor Solomon; and many grandnieces and -nephews as well as lots of cousins.
Janet was born at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. As her father was in the US Army she lived in many places, graduating from Stuttgart
American High School in Ludwigsburg, Germany; she then graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in
economics. Janet served four years herself in the Army following the example of generations of Solomons. Retired from a
career in the Internal Revenue Service as an information systems analyst, she moved to Waynesboro in 1995 when her son
enrolled at Fishburne Military School, remaining there the rest of her life.
Janet and her sister travelled extensively, searching for her family’s heritage from Maine to Texas, as well as visiting many
state capitals. They also visited most Canadian provinces and their capitals from Victoria to Halifax while attending meetings
of the Association of the United Empire Loyalists. Janet was a member of Nelly Custis Chapter of the National Society
Daughters of the American Revolution and had just qualified to become a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
She was also a member of the Nellie Custis Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Eastern Star.
When Janet wasn’t travelling, she enjoyed playing cards (usually beating her sister), reading, spending time snuggled up with
her cats; and had a love of horses from a young age until she had to give up riding due to illness. During a family cruise to the
Caribbean in 2020, Janet was able to go horseback riding one last time along the beautiful coastline of St. Maarten.
