Charles E. Smith
Charles Edward "Smitty" Smith, 62, of McGaheysville, died March 19, 2004, in an automobile accident in West Virginia.
Mr. Smith was born May 13, 1941, in Springhill, Va. He graduated from North River High School in 1959. For 35 years he worked for Goodyear, and had recently retired in August of 2003. He loved his job and the many people he came in contact with. Mr. Smith was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Dayton.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Tena Smith, and a grandson, Joshua.
Mr. Smith lived everyday for his family and loved ones. To everyone he was "Pappy." Everybody dearly loved Pappy.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Grace Mitts Smith, and four children, Randal Edward Smith and friend, Kari, Deborah Lynn Smith and friend, Tony, Linda Noel Davidson and husband, Jimmy, and Tena Louise Smith and friend, Mariano. Mr. Smith left behind six grandchildren, Amber and husband, Paul, Latasha, R.J., Sierra, Darien, and Preston. In addition, he also left behind a sister, Maryann Johnson.
Mr. Smith and his wife had been living with their daughter, Tena. There, Mr. Smith was Pappy to everyone and extended his love to several more, Wesley, Kimi, and Keith.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 26, 2004, at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater from 7-8 p.m. The Casket will be closed.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2004, at The Shepherd of the Valley Church in Dayton at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Theodore Shulz officiating.
