Cecil William “Tony” Simpson, Jr., 75, of Verona, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Augusta Health
in Fishersville. He was born in Clifton Forge on December 23, 1947, a son of the late Cecil William Simpson,
Sr. and Edith Gray (Craft) Simpson.
Tony graduated from Clifton Forge High School where he was a member of the 1966 State Championship
Basketball Team. He later graduated from Alderson Broaddus College in Phillip, WV. Tony proudly served in
the United States Army. He served his community by becoming a Virginia State Trooper, achieving the rank of
Master Trooper and later retiring in 2002. He attended Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Verona and was a member
of the Kingdom Seekers Sunday school group. Tony was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing golf and
cheering on his favorite sports teams, especially his granddaughters soccer team, and spending time with his
family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry McClung.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 50 years, Joyce Marlene (Lockhart) Simpson; sons, Brian
Simpson and Travis Simpson and his wife, Erin; granddaughters, Ruby and Veronica Simpson; brother, Gary
Simpson,MD, and his wife, Edie.; nephews, Gary Simpson, Jr. , Adam Simpson, Shane Fury, and David
Lockhart; niece, Amanda Pauley; uncle, Lonnie Craft and his wife, Catherine; mother-in-law, Pansy Lockhart;
sisters-in-law, Kathy Nicely and husband, Joe, and Tammy Aldridge; brother-in-law, Marvin Lockhart and his
wife, Diane; as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12pm on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, 129 Old
Laurel Hill Rd, Verona, with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be the Honor Guard from the Virginia State Troopers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tony’s Sunday school group the Kingdom Seekers and attending Virginia State
Troopers.
The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Charlton and Groome
Funeral Home in Fishersville.
