Billy Joe Shepherd, age 89, of Elkins, WV and formerly of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at
Nella’sAutumn Lake Healthcare Nursing Home in Elkins. Mr. Shepherd was born on June 6, 1934 in Jenkins, KY, the son of
the late William and Eliza Jane (Dean) Shepherd. Billy is survived by his former wife, Sharon “Jean” Shepherd of Petersburg,
WV.
Mr. Shepherd attended school in Kentucky and was a Baptist in faith. Billy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the
Korean War. He worked as a carpenter for ChrisAlt Construction and was a former member of theAmerican Legion Post
#76. Billy was an accomplished artist who loved to paint.
Billy is survived by: a daughter, MelissaAnn Howard of Kentucky; 2 sons, Christopher Shepherd of Kentucky; Timothy
Shepherd of Virginia; 3 sisters, Duretha (James) Maxwell of Wise, VA; Sue Shyman of Michigan; Nana Lou Tworzydlo of
Michigan; 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Shepherd; 3 brothers,
Harold, Donald, and Jimmy Shepherd; and a sister, Thelma Cornett.
In honoring Billy’s wishes, his body has been cremated with no public services. Inurnment will be at the South Branch Valley
