David Vincent Russell was born in Saratoga Springs, NewYork, on November 2, 1931, the youngest of four children.
Growing up in a hotel that catered to summer horse racing enthusiasts gave Dave an early start to a long life of service.
After graduating from Lemoyne College with a B.S. in history and a minor in theology, Dave joined theArmy and was
stationed in Japan for two years: his wife, Anne Marie, later joined him and their eldest son, Kevin, was born in Zama
Japan in 1956.
Their next home was in Buffalo, NewYork, where their two daughters, Joan and Terry, were born. In 1960 the family
moved to Virginia where Dave began his career in Human Resources at General Electric. While living in Waynesboro,
sons, Dan and David, were born and they found their way to Charlottesville. In 1968 their youngest child, David Charles
Russell, passed away. In 1970 the family was blessed with the birth of their daughter Carol Anne.
Dave stayed with General Electric for forty years. He loved God, his family, his church, sports, and music. He sang for
years in the barbershop quartet, took music lessons with his grandsons, coached his daughter’s basketball teams, was an
avid UVAsports fan, and even started playing competitive volleyball at age 75. As a member of the Church of the
Incarnation for over 50 years, he served in various church ministries in multiple capacities and made life-long friends.
He cherished time with each of his six children and their spouses, ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-
grandchildren, and loved his wife of 69 years to the end.
