Margaret Ellen Withrow Patterson Rodgers

Margaret Ellen Withrow Patterson Rodgers, 82, of Staunton, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at King’s Daughters’ Community Health Center.

A daughter of the late James Earl and Edna Reid Withrow, she was born on Feb. 25, 1929, in Lexington, Va.

Mrs. Rodgers was a homemaker and held several jobs outside the home. She was a former member of Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was currently a member of Reformed Baptist Church in Staunton.

Her first husband, Horace Allen Patterson, preceded her in death in May 1969. On Feb. 28, 1976, she married Henry F. Rodgers, who survives her.

Also surviving are three daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Patterson Tanner Skaggs and husband, Lee, of Newport News, Sarah P. Smith and husband, Michael, of Elkton and Janice Mowbray of Staunton; eight grandchildren, Katherine Tanner-Barker, Crystal Skaggs, Christopher Mowbray, Amy Mowbray, Heidi Smith, Joshua Smith, Tara Patterson and Lisa Wilkinson; four great-grandchildren, Trinity, Maverick and Tanner Barker and Madison Mowbray; one stepson, James Rodgers of Grottoes; one stepdaughter, Rachel Johns of Staunton and one stepgrandson, James David Johns; two sisters, Nancy Lee Sensabaugh and husband, Burnette, and Edna May Kirkpatrick, all of Rockbridge Baths; and one brother, Sam Withrow and wife, Heather, of Culpeper; two nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Patterson.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Edgewood Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Mt. Horeb Church with Dr. Howard Newman and Pastor Thomas W. Schullery officiating.
