Aubrey Holmes Robertson, 86, of Harrisonburg, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He died of complications due to a brief illness, but was able to enjoy his last few weeks of life at his home. He was thankful for his many friends and family members who visited him.

Born in Newport News on Feb. 3, 1919, Aubrey lived an enjoyable life, with incredible faith in Jesus Christ. A devout Seventh-day Adventist, he served his community and country in all moments of his life. During World War II, Aubrey served in the Army in the 54th Signal Battalion stationed in California. While living in Arlington, Va., he volunteered with his church, helping Vietnam refugees become established in the northern Virginia area. There, he met his wife, Judy Robertson. He retired from Arlington County Public Schools, where he taught driver education for 20 years, before moving to Harrisonburg in 1991. He was a member of the Harrisonburg Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife and son, Judy and Danny Aubrey Robertson of Harrisonburg; and a brother, Lawrence Robertson of Newport News. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mallory Robertson, George Robertson, Wilbur Robertson, and Samuel Robertson of Newport News, and a loving sister, Iris Martens of Hampton, Va.

The family welcomes all friends of Aubrey to remember his life at the viewing and funeral service. A memorial viewing will be conducted at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home this evening from 6-8. The funeral service will honor Aubrey’s life on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. at the Harrisonburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, 609 West Market Street, followed by a graveside service at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
