Hollis 'Tom' Francis Roberts, 88, a resident of Bridgewater passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at his home. He was
the youngest and last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was born on July 11, 1935 in Albemarle County and was the son of the late Marcus Hunter and Ethel Grey Clarke Roberts.
Tom graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1957. He was manager of the Waynesboro Whetzel Seed store for 25 years,
after their closing he moved to the store in Harrisonburg, from which he retired. He was a member of St. James United
Methodist Church and the former Harrisonburg Moose Lodge #1686.
He was married twice; his first wife, Phyllis Ritchie Roberts and his second wife, Betty Jo Vance Roberts, both preceded him in
death.Asister, Reitta Roberts Rodgers; and three brothers, William “Billy” Roberts, M. H. “Sam” Roberts and Jack Roberts,
also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his longtime friend and mother-in-law, Frances Ritchie; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-
nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.
Friends may view from 12 – 5 pm, on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The family will
not be present.
Agraveside service will be held 2 pm Sunday, October 1, 2023 at St. Jacobs (Spaders) Lutheran Church Cemetery with Pastor
Dan Bassett officiating.
