John H. Ramsey

John Hankins Ramsey, 90, of Bridgewater, and formerly of Deerfield, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at the Bridgewater Home.

Mr. Ramsey was born July 29, 1913, in Goshen, and was the son of Charles Swan and Lillian White Ramsey.

He graduated from Craigsville High School and completed O.C.S. training in the Army. Prior to retirement, he was chief probation and parole officer for Virginia District 12. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 30 years of service.

Mr. Ramsey was a member of Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church, where he had
previously served as an elder and as clerk of the Session. He was also a past member of the Deerfield Ruritan Club and Augusta Cooperative Board of
Directors. He helped form the Deerfield Telephone Company and was later a director of MGW Telephone Company.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Miller Ramsey, whom he married in February 1941; a daughter, Lois Ramsey McClure of Greenville; three granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; and a number of
nieces and nephews.

Burial will be 10:30 a.m. today at Rocky Spring Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Lantz Chapel of Bridgewater Retirement Community conducted by the Revs. John Haney and Gale Younkins.

The family will receive friends at the home of Lois McClure, 98 William McClure Lane in Greenville.
