Oley Jesse Racey, 73, of Woodstock, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester. A
Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodstock Christian Church. Pastors PG Coverstone and
Banks Swanson will officiate. Burial with military honors by Edinburg VFW Post 2447 will follow in Massanutten Cemetery in
Woodstock. A meal will follow after the burial at the church. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the
service.
Mr. Racey was born November 1, 1948, in Shenandoah County, son of the late Alfred Racey and Doris Hammit Racey. He
graduated from Central High School in 1967. He was a Sgt. in the Army in Vietnam from 1968-1969. After he served in the war,
he worked for Shen Valley building houses and also built brick chimneys as a side business. He then worked for RR Donnelly
Printing Press in Strasburg for over 30 years. He was a member of Woodstock Christian Church, Shenandoah Community
Fellowship, Edinburg VFW Post#2447 and the Society of the Fifth Division. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary
Campbell Racey; daughter, Lori Racey; sisters, Jean Racey and Lynette Allen; and brother, Alfred Racey Jr.
Oley is survived by daughters, Melinda Gonzalez and husband Frank of Sterling, VA, grandson Mateo Gonzalez; daughter,
Jennifer Stephens of Woodstock, granddaughter Morgan Stephens and grandson Jaxson Stephens; daughter, Jill Mantz and
husband Jake of Lynchburg, VA, granddaughters, Molly and Whitney Mantz; two brothers, Jan Racey and wife Dot of Colorado
and Jeff Racey and wife Jane of Fishers Hill; sister, Laura Fogle and husband Randy of Fort Valley and numerous nieces, nephews,
and cousins who loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Woodstock Christian Church, P.O. Box 521, Woodstock, VA 22664.
Oley was a good and faithful servant of Christ and a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He served the
church and the community and would help anyone who was in need. He was proud to have served his country during the
Vietnam War. He will be missed by all that knew him.
