Jean Ann Lucille (Veney) Organ, 86, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many passed away on Tuesday,
September 19, 2023 at her home.
She was born in Waynesboro on April 27, 1937 to the lateAlbert F. and Clairrine P. (Crawford) Veney.
Jean was devoted to her family, and was a pillar of strength and grace. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High
School, class of 1955. She retired from Unifi, where she worked for several years.
Jean is survived by her husband Samuel Organ, of Verona; four children, Larry Veney, of Stuarts Draft, Franklin Strother,
of Mount Solon, Jackie Strother, of Verona, and Donald Strother and wife, Lesley, of Churchville; son-in-law, Jesus
Portillo; 15 grandchildren, Claira Jean Veney, Jerrica Miller, Melissa Turner, Misti Strother, Kendall Campbell, Kandace
Campbell, Tayshawn Strother, Dexter Jones, Jessica Jones, Bianca Castillo, Donald "DJ" Strother, Jr., Malik Strother,
Payton Fitzwater, Tyreek Veney, and Tyana Veney; eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy B. Strother, and Samuel W. Veney and her
daughter, Jeanetta Portillo; sister, Constance Veney; brother, Ralph Veney; and daughter-in-law, Donna Strother.
Aservice celebrating Jean's life will be held on September 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service
in Bridgewater with Pastor Gerald Blair officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood-Ames Cemetery. The family will
receive friends one hour prior to the service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
