Barbara Jean Manzon, 95, of Woodstock, VA, passed away on January 28, 2023, after a
brief illness and a life well-lived.
Barbara was born in Chicago, IL to Frank M. Manzon, Sr. and Rose Manzon. The family
moved to Washington, DC when she was a young child. She was an excellent student
and athlete and graduated from McKinley Tech High School in 1945.
Barbara lived a full and vibrant life and her smile was always the brightest in the room.
She was independent and adventurous — she went hot-air ballooning and aerogliding,
owned a power boat and water skied, golfed, bowled, and rode a motorcycle. However,
few things gave her more pleasure than spending time with her family. She was
generous with her time and gifts and she delighted in organizing adventures for family
and friends, including white water rafting, snow skiing, and horseback riding trips. She
enjoyed celebrating her birthday with family picking crabs and sipping champagne.
Barbara loved animals. After retirement, she had time to pursue her love of horseback
riding, eventually owning her own horse named Montana. She rode throughout the
Shenandoah Valley and was a member of the Cedar Creek Mounted Guard.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Donna G. Beard (Alton), of Lanham, MD. She was a
beloved aunt to several nieces, nephews and their families, and a dear friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Frank M. Manzon, Jr. and
Phillip H. Manzon.
Family and friends may pay their respects and share their memories of Barbara during
visitation on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Valley Funeral Service
Chapel, 14116 S. Middle Rd., Edinburg, VA 22824. Inurnment will be at a later date. In
