LindaAnn Makepeace, 68, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
January 4, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on September 6, 1954 to the
late William Cleveland Shifflett and Rose “Peggy” Marie Shifflett. She is also
preceded in death by brothers, David Shifflett, Steve Shifflett, Eugene Shifflett, Eddie
Cleveland Shifflett and Dennis James Shifflett; and sister, Sherry Lynn Shifflett.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory, her loving son, Robert “Make” Makepeace Jr.
(Laura); two beautiful granddaughters that she absolutely adored, Chloe and McCoy
Makepeace; sister, Rose “Rosebud” Haney; brothers, Keith Shifflett (Kay) and Jerry
Shifflett; a sister-in-law Cathy Shifflett; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
other relatives and friends.
Linda will be remembered by all who knew her for her warm smile, her kindness and
generosity to others, and her devotion as a daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt
and cousin.
She had a joyful spirit and was a dear friend to many. Linda worked for over 30 years
with the federal government at FSTC and then NGIC, until retiring in 2012. She was
known for hosting game nights for her coworkers to get together to laugh and enjoy
time outside of work. She treasured memories of annual family camping trips through
the years and talked often about all the wonderful times shared. She enjoyed hosting
annual holiday events for family to gather and spend time together.
Aspecial note of gratitude is expressed to the many family members who cared for
Linda during her illness, especiallyApril Norford and Cathy Shifflett, and to Make
and Laura, for providing the care Linda needed in her final days in order to allow her
to peacefully transition from earth to her heavenly home, as she had wished.
Aprivate family graveside service will be held on Monday, January 9th.ACelebration
of Life will be scheduled in the spring for family and friends to gather and share
cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made in Linda’s
memory to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300,
