Samuel A. Mackey, 79, of Charlottesville, Va., departed this earth on October 22, 2022 to be with his Savior.
Born November 7, 1942 in Richmond, Va., he was the son of Walter C. Mackey and Helen A. Mackey. He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Samuel moved to Arlington, Va., where he attended Fairlington Elementary School, Lee Elementary School, Williamsburg Jr. High
School and Wakefield High School, graduating June 14, 1961. His higher education included a B.E.E. from UVa on August 12,
1967 and an M.S.E.E from UVa on Jan. 10, 1975. He served four years in U.S.A.F. from 1967-1971, and left the service on Sept.
30, 1971 as Staff Sergeant.
Samuel’s career started as an Engineering analyst at Sperry Marine, from 1975-1991. He then was employed as a software
engineer at Diversified Engineering in Richmond, Va., and from 1997-2001 as a database librarian/programmer for UVa nursing
school.
Samuel’s love of learning was evident in the many technical and programming courses at PVCC, as well as being a member of the
Eta Kappa Nu Electrical Engineering Honorary Society and a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Past times included being a model railroader, poet, programmer and skiing, earning the Killington Vermont Intermediate Skiing
badge.
Samuel was a member of long standing at University Baptist Church.
Agraveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Holly Memorial Gardens with Dr. Matthew Tennant
