Mildred Coverstone Layton, 79, of Lyndhurst, VA passed away January 18, 2023, at Augusta
Health Shenandoah House in Fishersville, VA. A funeral service will be held Wednesday January
25, 2023, at 11:00 am at Valley Funeral Service in Edinburg. The family will receive friends an
hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Detrick Cemetery in Fort Valley. Pastor Josh
Wheeler will officiate.
Ms. Layton was born July 25, 1943, to the late William and Nora Funk Coverstone. She was a
1961 graduate of Strasburg High School. She retired from Sears and Roebuck in Winchester, VA
as well as from Berryville Graphics as a quality control worker.
She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Fridley; daughter, Sherry Fridley; and siblings, Velma
Hensley, Nelson Coverstone, Reese Coverstone, and Rosie Schikel.
She is survived by her son, Brian Fridley and wife, Kimberly of Lyndhurst, VA; siblings, Iris Munch,
Harriet Wiley, Wanda Pettit, and Glenna Beitel; grandchildren, Kevin, Mathew, Travis, and Lauren
Fridley, Kristopher Brydge and Summer Brydge; and nine great grandchildren.
