Eva Sue Larkum (née McCarthy), 95, passed away on January 10, 2023, in Viera,
Florida where she resided for more than 20 years.
Born in Johnson City, Tenn. and raised in Covington, Va., Sue was the oldest of four
(Billy, Pat, and Carolyn). Sue attended The University of Virginia Hospital School of
Nursing where she met Allyn Larkum, a future judge, and her future husband.
Together they raised two rambunctious boys, Phillip and John, in Waynesboro, Va.
Sue eventually moved full-time to be closer to her sister and best friend, Carolyn.A
pioneer in couponing, Sue, along with her dear friend Joyce Coakley, had an eye for
bargains and a well-stocked garage, and was always willing to donate to those in
need. Sue particularly enjoyed playing cards and was an accomplished (and
competitive!) bridge, rummy, and poker player.
Sue is survived by her sister, Carolyn McCarthy Dunn (Dennis); daughter-in-law,
Loraine Powell Larkum; grandsons, ChristopherAllyn Swain Larkum, RichardAllyn
Swain Larkum (Jennifer), and Michael Lawrence Swain Larkum (Jennifer); step-
grandchildrenAmanda Breeze Campo and MichaelAlexander Powell; and seven
great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Olivia, Eva, Paul, Malcolm, Kai, and Bodhi Larkum.
She was preceded in death byAllyn Leonard Larkum, her husband of 32 years, and
her sons JohnAllyn Larkum and Phillip Newton Larkum.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Sue's name to The
Humane Society of the United States,American Red Cross, or Saint Mark's
Episcopal Church in Cocoa, Fla.
