Leslie G. Landes Sr.

Leslie Garber "Babe" Landes Sr., 72, a resident of 25 Roller Drive in Mount Sidney, died at 10:15 Sunday evening, Dec. 8, 2002, at Shenandoah Valley Health Center in Buena Vista.

A son of the late Henry Daniel and Elsie Garber Landes, he was born on Nov. 7, 1929, in the Weyers Cave community of Augusta County. Mr. Landes retired from Houff Transfer at Weyers Cave in 1983 and was a member of Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

On June 10, 1950, he married the former Janet Rhodecap who survives him.

Also surviving is a son, Leslie G. Landes Jr. and wife Sherry of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren, Dustin C. Landes, Kaitlynn Ann Landes, Jack Wesley Landes and Michael Dull; two sisters, Goldie Landes, a resident of the Bridgewater Home, and Marie Young of Harrisonburg; one brother, the Rev. H. Warren Landis and wife Wanda of Hampton, Va.; a sister-in-law, Darlene Landes of Weyers Cave and a faithful friend, George Cunningham of Lexington, Va. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray R. Landes and Carl W. Landes.

A Witness to the Resurrection service will be held at 11:00 Wednesday morning from Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Stanley officiating. Burial will be earlier in the day in the Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. this evening at the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Capital Improvement Fund of Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice, in memory of Mr. Landes.
