Charlie Mitchell (Pee Wee) Johnson, 79, of York Pennsylvania, formerly of Augusta County Virginia passed
away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Adult Home where he had lived for the past few years. He was
born on Thursday, January 27, 1944 in Massies Mill, Virginia (the 8th of 11 children) to the late Willie Edward
Johnson (1986) and Cindyline Campbell Johnson (1967).
Pee Wee was a kind and loving man. Due to being run over by a car when he was young he had limited use
of his legs and arms, so being the man he was he made his main job in life helping whatever family member
needed him. He lived with one of his sisters for many years to help with his dad, and then moved to
Pennsylvania to help two of his brothers until he no longer could.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings: James E. Johnson (1982), Thomas B.
Johnson (2017), John W. Johnson (1989), Dewey L. Johnson (2002), Rose E. Johnson (1924), Susie Q.
Johnson (1938), Emma Johnson Moyer (2021), Margie Johnson Hartman (2017) and Linda Johnson Glovier
(2022); nephews: Francis L. Mawyer Jr., Randy Graves, Dwayne Johnson, and Gary M. Mawyer Sr.
He is survived by his sister Clara “Jane” Mawyer, nephews: Cecil (Papoose) Johnson, Tony Johnson,
Frankie Johnson, Tommy (Cindy) Baker, John (Nancy) Johnson, David Johnson, Jimmy Mawyer and
Richard Maybush; nieces, Juanita “Winkie” (Franice) Hunt, April Johnson, Elizabeth “Sissy” Moore, Donna
Lowe, Revonda “Sissy” Maxwell, Diane (Mike) Hull, Kristy Hartman, Lori Ann Littlejohn, and Adena (Mark)
Eppard as well as many cousins, great, great great and great great great nieces and nephews and other
loving family members.
A gathering for friends and family will be announced and held at a later date. The family would like to thank
Charlton and Groome Funeral Home for their help in getting our beloved Pee Wee home.
