Betty Ollie Howard of Red Banks Road, Mt. Jackson Virginia went home to rest in the
care of her Lord and Savior Christ Jesus on Monday, January 30, 2023.
She was born on June 23, 1942 to the late Jasper “Jack” and Connie Simon Stroop in
Linville, Virginia. Betty had 4 brothers, who preceded her in death, Dolan Glenn Stroop,
Jackie Allen Stroop, Linden Wayne Stroop, Sr., and Orville Lee Stroop. She is survived
by her closest relative, Linden Stroop, Jr., her nephew; and dear friend, Corinna
(Cookie) Weatherholtz. They were there to lend a hand in a moment’s notice, just a
phone call away. Other relatives of Betty’s include numerous aunts, cousins, nephews,
and nieces.
Betty graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1961. Soon after, she
completed her Medical Technology Certification at Triplett Technical School in Mt.
Jackson. Over the years, she had been employed at the Virginian Truck Stop, Toms
Brook and the Shenvalee in New Market, as a cook; Shenandoah Memorial Hospital,
Woodstock; Life Care Center of New Market; Consulate Health Care of Woodstock, as a
Certificated Nursing Assistant, and Royal Haven in Woodstock as a Med-Tech.
Being able to pull off a good joke on someone was her greatest thrill. She loved the
nursing profession and was devoted in providing the best care the residents deserved.
Betty enjoyed traveling, reading, and embroidering. She was a member of the Walker
Chapel Church of the Brethren in Mt. Jackson for many years.
A special thanks to Kindred Hospice and Visiting Angels for their caring love for Betty.
A Graveside Service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Mt. Jackson
Cemetery in Mt. Jackson, Virginia. Reverend William Zirk will officiate. Dellinger
