Geneva "Maw" Hammer, 87, of Franklin, W.Va., died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Hammer was born March 15, 1917, in Tanner, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late George Gilbert Brooks and Almira Cunningham Brooks.
She was a retired cook at Dahmer’s Restaurant and Thompson’s Restaurant. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
On Aug. 8, 1936, she married Howard Harper "Jake" Hammer; he preceded her in death Jan. 8, 1987.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Kemper of Franklin, W.Va.; a son, Denzel Hammer of Roanoke and Anchorage, Alaska; seven grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pastor Dan Ludwick will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, W.Va. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pendleton County Rescue Squad.
