Grinstead.
Louise McKinney Lilly Grinstead, 96, passed away on January 7, 2023, at Greenfield
Senior Living in Woodstock, Virginia. Louise was born on July 25, 1926, in Beckley, West
Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Pearl Whitt McKinney. She
resided in Beckley for 85 years and relocated to Woodstock, Virginia in 2011. During her
life in Beckley, Louise was the owner of the Green Bank motel. She was also an active
member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church for over 50 years serving as a member of
the choir, the women’s group and church treasurer. She was also a long-time member of
Quota International service organization and led the club serving a term as First District
Governor in 1989.
Louise was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorinda Lilly Shaffer; husbands Daniel
Lilly, Sr. and Wilbert “Bill” Grinstead, Jr.; brothers Otto McKinney and Claude McKinney;
and sisters Alta Thompson and Eileen Gambrell.
Surviving family members cherishing her memory are her son Daniel Lilly, Jr. (Denise);
son-in-law George Shaffer; stepson Wilbert Grinstead, III (Linda); sisters Dora Robbins
and Anna Ruth Pioch; sister-in-law Virginia McKinney; grandchildren Daniel Lilly, III,
Deanna Francisco, Lisa Caudill, Matthew Shaffer, Mary-Margaret Kim, Paul Grinstead
and Nathan Grinstead; 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
