Tracy Stuart Gayhart, 89, husband of Greta (Baker) Gayhart of Verona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October
23, 2022 at his home, with his family by his side.
Mr. Gayhart was born in Augusta County, Virginia on March 19, 1933 a son of the late George Wallace Gayhart and
Anna Agnes (Helmick) Gayhart.
Mr. Gayhart was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Verona VFH Post 10826. He was an
active member of Third Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and trustee, and was nominated as man
of the year. Tracy retired from Smith’s Transfer after twenty-five years and Coca-Cola after ten years as a truck
driver. He had a love for hunting, camping, country music, baseball, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gayhart was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Wickle, a brother, and
three sisters
Surviving, addition to his wife of forty-nine years, are four sons, Jeff McDaniel and his wife Jane of Verona, Greg
McDaniel and his wife Cathy of Staunton, Roger McDaniel and his wife Debbie of West Virginia, and Dennis Gayhart
of Waynesboro; two daughters, Johnna Hanger and her husband Scott of Verona, and Brenda Rankin of Greenville;
a sister, Agnes (Gayhart) Fitzgerald of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Katie, Atlee, Conner, Ray, Jason, Amanda,
and Steve; and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 in Third Presbyterian Church by Pastor
Jacob Singleton.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
Entombment will follow in the Oaklawn Mausoleum.
Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Conner McDaniel and Atlee Hanger, and Johnny Mozingo, George
Mozingo, Eddie Mozingo, Glenn Shickel, and Wayne Shickel.
Honorary pallbearers include men of Third Presbyterian Church and special friends Donald Meeks, Jim Fisher and
Walter Mack.
It is suggested, that those desiring make memorial contributions to Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook
Road, Staunton, Virginia 24401 or Augusta Health Foundation, c/o Hospice of the Shenandoah, Post Office Box
1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939.
The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to the nurses at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah
especially Beverly Brown and Joy Buchanan, Susan Williams, and Golden Years Caregiving.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
