James E. Forbus

James Edward Forbus, 75, of St. Thomas, Pa., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011.

He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Weyers Cave, and was the son of the late Raymond and Katherine Forbus.

Mr. Forbus served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had lived in Mount Crawford for many years and had worked as a truck driver for Smith Transfer for over 25 years. In 2003, he moved to Pennsylvania to live and be closer to his family.

On March 9, 1956, he married Ruby Geniva Rodgers Forbus, who preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 2004. He is also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Wayne and Michael Edward Forbus.

His surviving family includes four sons, James Franklin Forbus, Donald Eugene Forbus, Howard Robert Forbus and Albert William Forbus; two daughters, Katherine Louise McCann and Jamie Forbus; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Hassler and Betty Morris.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with Pastor Howard Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Linville Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Broadway.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
