Beverley H. Fleming, of Mount Jackson, VA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on
January 24, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Beverley was also known
as Dad, Uncle Bev, and years ago as Bill to his co-workers and employees. A funeral
service will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 2:00pm at Valley Funeral Service in
Edinburg. Pastor Chad Estep will officiate.
In 1947, Beverley graduated from Triplett High School in Mt Jackson, in 1947 with a
Bachelor of Arts from Berea College, and later with a Master’s in Public Administration
from George Washington University with a Master’s. He was active in alumni groups for
all of them. He worked various Civilian Human Resource roles for the US Federal
Government, including a stint at the Pentagon in the mid-1960’s where he met his future
wife. But the professional successes he was most proud of were achieved after he
retired. He served two terms as the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, spent 20
years substitute teaching at North Fork Middle School, served as the President of the
Virginia Alliance for the Mentally Ill, was on the Northwestern Community Services
Board of Directors, was an adjunct instructor for Lord Fairfax Community College (Laurel
Ridge Community College) teaching inmates at the regional jail, and was the Chairman
of the Shenandoah County Electoral Board. And was involved in many more community
and faith-based organizations. He was on the move, figuratively and literally. But he
always had time for the roles he cherished most as husband, father, grandfather, and
uncle.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lillie (Eagles) Fleming, his brother and sister-in-law,
Dudley and Karen Fleming, his children, Earl Pridgen and Melanie Miller, and his
grandchildren, Leah, Tory, Logan, and Alexander (Xander) Pridgen. And many beloved
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold J. and Eva Elizabeth
(Walters) Fleming, his brother and sister-in-law, Ripley and Becky Fleming, and son
Grant Webb.
