Elwood I. Fitzgerald, 95, of Waynesboro, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Rivers Edge Nursing
Home. He was born in Nelson County on October 1, 1928, a son of the late Arthur Newton and Hannah P.
(Philipps) Fitzgerald.
Elwood retired from Crompton and greatly enjoyed farming.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Fitzgerald; daughter, Rebecca
Lucas; granddaughter, Anglea Lucas; and siblings: Eldrige Fitzgerald, Joe Fitzgerald, James Fitzgerald,
Ralph “Tojio” Fitzgerald, Ed Fitzgerald, J.R. Fitzgerald, Wilber “Red” Fitzgerald, Robert Fitzgerald, and
Maggie Allen.
Survivors include his son, Randy Fitzgerald; grandsons: Dallas, Eric, and Chris Fitzgerald; great
granddaughters: Molly Emmy, and Allie Fitzgerald; siblings, Jean Miller and Geraldine Clements; as well as
extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Charlton and Groome Funeral
Home with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Elwood was a hard
working and blue jeans wearing man, so please dress comfortable to attend the service.
Active pallbearers will be Dallas Fitzgerald, Eric Fitzgerald, Chris Fitzgerald, Scott Ryan, Scott Lowery, and
Joe Lowery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
