M.A. Dofflemyer Jr.

M.A. Dofflemyer Jr. of Silver Spring, Md., died Feb. 19, 2004. Mr. Dofflemyer, a firefighter, retired after 28 years from the Washington, D.C. Fire Department and served as a life member with the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor M. McCeney Dofflemyer and parents, Milton A. Dofflemyer and Naomi Frazier Dofflemyer, brothers, Herman Sr., Kenzie, Alfred, and Summerbell Dofflemyer and sisters: Blanche Dofflemyer, Drusilla Voorhees and Leona Downs. A sister, Minnie Hensley, survives.

He is survived by sons, Alan and Mark and daughter, Diane Meadows; granddaughter, Angela Coffman; great-grandson, Marshall Adams, along with brothers and sisters firefighters of Silver Spring, Md. and Washington, D.C. and a number of nieces and nephews.

A member of the SeaBees in World War II, he participated in the invasion of Normandy. Going on to work and raise his family in Washington and Silver Spring, he returned often to the Elkton area to spend time in the homeplace area with family and people he loved.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 12621 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, Md.

Arrangements are by Hines Rinaldi Funeral Home, Silver Spring, Md.
