Rennie Lee Dobbins was called to be in the care of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
on Thursday, January 26, 2023.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Rebecca Curd Dobbins; his children,
Treacy Dobbins and wife, Veronica, Drew Dobbins, Kelly Hammer and
husband, Joshua. Rennie’s grandchildren include: Tristan, Ale, Jeshua, Rennie,
Logan, Peyton, and great grandson Hudson. Rennie’s life is easily
characterized by his love and devotion for God, family, friends, and laughter.
Rennie was born in Waynesboro, VA and the youngest son of Carl and
Virginia Dobbins, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death
by his older brother Donnie Dobbins and sister Beverly Weatherholtz. He is
also survived by his sister, Carolyn Beard and brother-in-law Jerry Beard, and
a number of nieces and nephews.
Rennie was an accomplished athlete at Waynesboro High School, where he
excelled in baseball and football. He enjoyed golf and all sports. Upon
graduation, Rennie was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he was awarded
the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals for outstanding meritorious service
in Vietnam.
Rennie was a constant figure with the Waynesboro Generals, as he supported
the team across various roles. Rennie was well known as the “Voice of the
Diamondbacks” for many years, and a member of the Hariston Braves
Championship Teams with the Rockingham County Baseball League. Rennie
was a long-standing member of the Fishersville United Methodist Church.
Rennie’s vibrant personality and love for life left a lasting impression on
everyone he met.
Arrangements will be handled by Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home. There will
be a Celebration of Life service for Rennie on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at
3:00PM at the Fishersville United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fishersville United Methodist
Church, 1600 Jefferson Hwy Fishersville, VA 22939 and the Valley Program-
Aging Services, 325 Pine Ave Waynesboro, VA 22980.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Lynch, Marsha Almarode
FNP-C, ACHPN, and the second floor nursing staff at the Augusta Health
Medical Center.
