John H. DeSarno, 57


John Herbert DeSarno, 57, of Grottoes, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

John was born in Washington, D.C., on July 22, 1953, and was a son of the late Ralph F. and Julia (Rawlings) DeSarno.

He retired from the National Park Service in Washington, D.C., as a groundskeeper at the Lincoln Memorial.

John is survived by a daughter, Joanna DeSarno of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Bridget Meyer and husband, Gary, of Ocean Pines, Md., and Rose DeSarno of S.C.; three brothers, Ralph DeSarno and wife, Evelyn, of Grottoes, Vincent DeSarno and wife, Peggy, of Staunton, and Dominic DeSarno and wife, Linda, of White Plains, Md. He is also survived by a grandson, Jonah DeSarno.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Daniel DeSarno.

At his request, his body has been cremated. No services are scheduled at this time.
