Laura Belle Comer, age 94, of Shenandoah, Va., passed away September 19, 2023, at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Born
January 7, 1929, in Luray, she was a daughter of the late Hubert and Sina Holmes Hilliard. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Elby Maxwell Comer, Sr. in 2002, after 53 years of marriage; three sisters, Lucille Burner, Jeanette
Painter and Betty Jane Turnage; two brothers, Holmes and Kenneth Hilliard and son-in-law, Roger Lam.
Mrs. Comer was a dedicated homemaker to her loving family. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts for family and
friends, attending Bible study and was a faithful church attendee. In her earlier years, she, along with her family, enjoyed
taking bus trips with the Shenandoah Craft Club and also spending time in her flower beds. Family holidays were always
held at her house and she expected everyone to be there.
Surviving are five daughters, Linda Wood, Shelby Jackson and husband, William, Victoria “Vicki” Lam, Jenny Meadows
and husband, Richard, and Cinda McDaniel and husband, Jimmy; two sons, Elby Comer, Jr. and wife, Sherry and John
Comer; a sister, Sarah May; five grandchildren,Adam Lee Lam and wife, Debra, Stewart Lam and wife, Deanna, David
Jackson, Amanda Schaefer and husband, Johnny and Kara Comer; four great-grandchildren, Lincoln Lam, McKenzie
Jackson, William Schaefer and Emery Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at First Baptist Church of
Elkton. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the church with Pastor Dennis Boatwright officiating. Interment
will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Page County.
