Edwin W. Comer

Edwin Woodroe Comer, 78, of 713 Tenth St., Shenandoah, departed this life on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at his home. Mr. Comer had been battling cancer for the past three years.

Mr. Comer was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Shenandoah, and was the son of the late Noah F. and Victoria Grimsley Comer.

Mr. Comer served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. He was retired from Merck & Co. in Elkton with 40 years of service. He was a member of the Avis O. Comer Post 8613 in Shenandoah and a member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah.

Mr. Comer is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Alena M. (Sue) Comer of Shenandoah; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary D. and Patsy Comer of New Market; seven brothers, Nelson and Wayman Comer of Shenandoah, Gilbert Comer of Harrisonburg, Clark Comer of Winston-Salem, N.C., Merle Comer of Aliquippa, Pa., Albert Comer of Delaware, and Durwood Comer of Rileyville; and two sisters, Lorene Good of Shenandoah, and Dorothy Alger of Aliquippa, Pa.

Pastor Paul St. Clair and the Rev. Jim Perry will conduct a graveside service 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mount Lebanon United Church of Christ Cemetery near Shenandoah.

The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday evening from 7 to 8 at the Kyger Funeral Home, Route 33 West of Elkton (115 Nicholson Road). Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Kyger Funeral Homes of Harrisonburg and Elkton and the Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market.
