Betty J. Butler

Betty Jean Ellis Johnson Butler, 71, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., died Thursday, July 8, 2004.

Mrs. Butler was a native of Suffolk, and was a daughter of the late Wilson Stanley Ellis and Edith Turner Ellis of Suffolk.

She was formerly employed in the packaging department of Lipton Tea. She was a member of Outer Banks Presbyterian Church. She was a member and served on the Board of Directors at the Outer Banks Hotline. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary 4411 and the American Red Cross.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 39 years, Frank T. Butler Jr.; her children, Alice Johnson Atkins of Franklin, Stephen Heath Johnson of Weyers Cave, Timothy Daryl Johnson of Chesapeake, David Langston Johnson of Fishersville, Michael Wilson Johnson of Harrisonburg, Lydonna Lynn Gayle of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Frank Butler of Orange Park, Fla., Victor Stephen Butler of Chesapeake and Thomas James Butler of Callahan, Fla.; two sisters, Peggy Ann Wilson and Connie Elizabeth Duck, both of Suffolk; a brother, Shirley Lee Ellis of Suffolk; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. William Hawkins will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Monday at Parr Funeral Home in Suffolk. Burial will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at the home of Richard and Connie Duck, 2940 Deer Path Road in Suffolk at other times.
