Melba Brown, 87


Melba Katherine Schaeffer Brown, 87, of Manassas, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, in Manassas.

Mrs. Brown was born Nov. 21, 1920, in Shenandoah County and was the daughter of the late Charles O. and Ottie R. Phillips Schaeffer.

She had lived in Manassas for many years and had retired from civil service.

Surviving are a son, Stanley Bowen of Suffolk; a daughter, Nancy Bowen of Manassas; a brother, Austin Schaeffer of New Market; a sister, Veda Zirkle of New Market; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Edward Wilkins will conduct a committal service 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Matthew’s Cemetery in New Market.

Local arrangements are being handled by Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market.
