Clement S. Armentrout

Dr. Clement Sherrill Armentrout, of Harrisonburg, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at his home.

Dr. Armentrout was born Oct. 22, 1912, in Keezletown, and was the son of the late Price Augustine and Annie Virginia Frye Armentrout.

He graduated from Bridgewater College and continued his education at the Medical College of Virginia, where he received the Doctor of Medicine degree. From 1940 to 1945, Dr. Armentrout was engaged in postgraduate surgical training through an approved residency at Medical College of Virginia under Dr. I.A. Bigger and was associated with Dr. Arthur S. Brinkley of Richmond in the practice of surgery from 1945 to 1946. From 1946 until retiring in 1982, he was a surgeon in Harrisonburg.

Dr. Armentrout was a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. His professional memberships include the American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, Southeastern Surgical Congress, Virginia Surgical Society, Richmond Academy of Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia, Rockingham County Medical Society and the Valley of Virginia Medical Association. He was a member of the Spotswood Country Club, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Antique Wireless Association. He was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ.

On July 20, 1940 he married Mary Helen Carter, who preceded him in death Aug. 4, 2000.

He is survived by a sister, Anna Gwendolen Armentrout of Harrisonburg, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. His body will be taken to Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg at 11 a.m. for a graveside service with the Rev. Don Smith officiating.

The casket will be closed.
