Christine Shipp Armentrout, 95


Mrs. Christine Shipp Armentrout, 95, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 18, 2008.

A daughter of the late James John and Rebecca Baugher Shipp, she was born on April 1, 1913, in the Swift Run community of Elkton where she lived her early life. Following her marriage, she resided in the same home on Indian Trail Road for 71 years. Mrs. Armentrout attended two years of nursing school and, along with her husband, operated a farm. She was an active member of Fellowship United Methodist Church and was a trustee and past president of the Women's Society. She loved animals, the outdoors and raised Tennessee Walker horses.

On June 9, 1937, she married Franklin Flook Armentrout, who preceded her in death June 3, 1978.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by five nieces, Jean Madren of Elkton, Margaret Mason, of Brentwood, Tenn., Kathryn Simpson of Front Royal, Juanita Mackey of Cary, N.C., and Joyce Riley of Toledo, Ohio; three nephews, James Miller of Elkton, James Shipp of Toledo, Ohio, and Dr. William Simpson of Warrenton; a number of great-nieces and nephews and a dear neighbor and friend, Phyllis Armentrout of Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home from 2 until 3 p.m. Monday prior to the funeral service.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Lindsey Chapel with the Rev. Terry Frank and Rev. Charlene I. Landes officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship United Methodist Church Cemetery.
