Susan E. Arey


Our daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend, Susan Ellen Moore Arey went to live eternal life with Christ on December 28, 2006.

Born November 22, 1962, Susan is survived by her husband, Samuel K. Arey, whom she married May 16, 1987; son, Spencer Moore Arey; and daughter, Sarah Ellen Arey. She is also survived by her mother, Margie L. Moore and was preceded in death by her father, Marhlin A. Moore on June 28, 2000. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Larry Moore and wife April, and their children, Emily and Bryan, as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Susan was a homemaker and took pride in all God’s earthly gifts. She dearly loved her family, church, and community and found joy in doing for others. She loved all children like her own and made a "home away from home" for many. She was a lifetime member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mount Sidney. She devoted much of her life to serving the Church Women’s Group, served on church council and many committees, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In August of 2002 she was instrumental in organizing and was Co-Chairman for the 200th Anniversary Celebration of Salem Church. She was a graduate of Fort Defiance High School and Blue Ridge Community College.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Cancer Center (235 Cantrell Ave Harrisonburg, VA 22801) or Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery Trust Fund (P.O. Box 38, Mt. Sidney, VA 24467).

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Salem Lutheran Church from 6:00 to 8:00pm. A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:00pm with Pastor Christopher D. Carr officiating. Pallbearers will be Bert, Curtis, and Carl Arey, Adam and Jason Shiflett, and Doug Ocheltree.

Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater is in charge of arrangements.
