Georgie D. Arehart, 86


Georgie Downs Arehart, 86, a resident of Grottoes, died Saturday night in the Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since Sept. 13, 2006.

She was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Weyers Cave, and was a daughter of the late George Erby and Margie Catherine Teter Downs.

Mrs. Arehart was a foreman at the DuPlant plant in Grottoes and was a member of the Mount Olive Brethren Church.

On May 22, 1943, she married Gerald Eugene "Jake" Arehart, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy A. and Alvin Leroy Layne of Grottoes; two grandchildren, Sherri and Clint Hinkle of Fulks Run and Jerry and Kim Layne of Glasgow; one brother, George E. Downs Jr. of Winchester; and one sister, Mary Frances Keiss of Titusville, Fla. Four great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday morning, Oct. 31, 2006, at 11 o’clock in the Mount Olive Brethren Church Cemetery by the Rev. Fredric G. Miller. The family will receive friends at the Layne home at any time. Friends may also call at the Kyger-Pence Funeral Home near McGaheysville. The casket will be closed.
