Melvin L. Anhold, 76


Melvin Ludwig Anhold, 76, of Bridgewater, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at his home.

He was born in Chicago, Ill. on Oct. 25, 1930, and was the son of the late Ludwig and Ella (Kampfert) Anhold.

Mr. Anhold worked as a Forester for the U.S. Forest Service for 25 years in Utah, Arkansas, Georgia and Virginia, retiring in 1985. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Utah State University Department of Forestry in 1961. He was a past president of the Harrisonburg Kiwanis Club and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and was a former troop leader of the Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 38. He was currently serving as president of the Community Auxiliary of the Bridgewater Rescue Squad, where he was a life member. He loved traveling, camping and Elk hunting.

He was united in marriage on March 28, 1953, to Mary Todd (Bartholomew) Anhold of Bridgewater, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are five children, Mark Anhold of Churchville, David Anhold and wife, Susan, of Greenwood, John Anhold and wife, Linda Wadleigh of Flagstaff, Ariz., Tom Anhold and wife, Becky, of Churchville, Susan Anhold Randolph and husband, Phil, of Colonial Heights. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Claire Anhold, Ben Anhold, Eric Anhold, Matt Anhold, Emily Anhold, Spencer Randolph, Chris Anhold, Christa Anhold, Austin Randolph, Steven Anhold, Ryan Anhold and Mason Randolph.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 26, 2007, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Community Auxiliary of the Bridgewater Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 454, Bridgewater, VA 22812.
